The retrofit of Młynów water-power plant has been successfully completed.
Kaplan turbine equipped with 2100 mm diameter rotor vertical shaft was installed. Prior to retrofit its power output was merely 130 kW at H = 2.5 m difference of levels.

With the application of maximum power output significant water hammering caused vibrations in the building. As a result, Francis turbine - installed in the vicinity ? turned out to be substantially damaged.

Our company carried out the assessment of the turbineset technical condition. Upon assessment of the structure of its flowing system, we recommended retrofit works on suction tube as, in our opinion, it was incorrectly constructed.

Engineering works on the suction tube were carried out on the basis of existing sizes of the outlet chamber in a manner as to facilitate assembly of all components of the elbow suction tube.

Some significant difficulties were faced in the course of civil works as the entire building has been placed on monolithic rock and approximately 20 m3 of the material was required to be drilled out.

The works were carried out in adverse conditions in winter time at the end of January and the beginning of February this year. Upon completion of concrete works, WTW company successfully proceeded with start-up activities on the turbineset. Currently, at nominal 2.5 m level difference, power output of the turbine equals 209 kW which translates into maximum 60% power increase. The turbine operation became smooth and steady within entire range of power output.
